Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation Awards
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation presented awards at their Gala Celebration of Hope Dinner Thursday, July 12 in Washington DC. The dinner was part of a two day conference for those involved in the cure for mesothelioma (meso). This includes patients of meso, doctors and researchers, caregivers and advocates for the meso community.
The Pioneer Award was presented to Dr. David Sugarbaker, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. Dr Sugarbaker was honored for his work as founder of the International Mesothelioma Program (IMP). The IMP located at Brigham and Women’s Hospital has developed treatment options that can extend the lives and give hope to patients diagnosed with mesothelioma, a deadly cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
Other honorees include Bonnie Anderson, awarded the Bruce Vento Hope Builder Award and Janice Malkotsis and Erica Lacono, recipients of the Volunteer of the Year Award. Ms [...]
