Causes and Symptoms of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
A traumatic brain injury (TBI) can be caused by a blow or jolt to the head and can disrupt the normal function of the brain. Symptoms of a traumatic brain injury vary from mild, resulting in a brief change in mental status, to severe, resulting in an extended period of unconsciousness. A traumatic brain injury can also cause prolonged amnesia after the injury as well as short and long term disabilities.
